As a community architect, researcher and social innovator in sustainable development, Kevin began his architectural studies and his professional experience in Kenya. His focus has led him onto community development work in South Africa, where he has been based since 2005. His doctoral research in the use of alternative design and technology as an agent towards social change merges the environmental with the socioeconomic aspect, and applies a transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach engaging Cape Peninsula University of Technology (SA), Wismar University (Germany) and Lawrence Technological University (USA). His work emerges from the foundation of a people-centered design approach responding to the urgency towards social justice through activism and accompanied by business, environment and technical studies. Well- travelled in the Eastern, Southern Africa and Central Europe, his work explores alternatives in both the design and development approach grounding the green agenda in sustainable solutions. It has been nominated in the 2017 Design Indaba’s MBOISA (Most Beautiful Object in South Africa) and recently won the 2018 SAPOA Winner – Overall Transformational Award. He has been featured in the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC – South Africa), Mail & Guardian, Deutsche Welle Television (DWTV – Germany ), The Architecture Record (New York – USA), and in numerous newspapers and magazines in South Africa and globally.
