Dr. Anna Msowoya-Keys is the founder of Maloto and Mzuzu International Academy. Maloto is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing technical and financial resources to Mzuzu International Academy and local community projects. Mzuzu International Academy, with over 350 students at the primary and secondary levels, is the only internationally accredited high school in the northern region of Malawi. Dr. Msowoya-Keys has more than 30 years of international development and humanitarian relief experience. She has worked for ActionAid, the International Rescue Committee and the Norwegian Refugee Council in Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Dr. Msowoya-Keys is committed to women and community empowerment, convinced that local people have the skills and desire to improve their communities. She builds bridges between the local community and external supporters in order to attract the resources necessary to improve the overall socio-economic and educational well-being of the community’s most vulnerable members. Dr. Msowoya-Keys received her honorary doctorate from Mzuzu University in 2015 in recognition of her development efforts in her native Malawi and across Africa.
