Unlocking inclusive economies with girls, and their allies
Girls in Business (GIB) is a transformative program developed by ORIBI in collaboration and partnership with Open Design Afrika.
ORIBI is an impact incubator that cultivates social innovation in South Africa by enabling the creation of sustainable and alternative ecosystems, through the promotion and support of entrepreneurship.
ODA contributes a Master Class within the curriculum of GIB, focusing on cultivating Creative Intelligence and guiding girls in analysing their social impact business ideas. The aim is to add significance and meaning to their impactful solutions, improving life and well-being for both people and the planet.
GIB brings together high school girls from diverse communities, breaking barriers and creating accessible opportunities. From Atlantis to Lyndoch, Khayelitsha to Athlone, and beyond, this program empowers young girls to embrace their uniqueness, share personal challenges, and address community issues within a safe and engaging environment.
Throughout this journey, girls unlock their superpowers, cultivate vital life and future skills, and gain the creative confidence to innovate economically viable and impactful solutions. By nurturing individual strengths and fostering collective agency, GIB instills in them the belief that they have the power to drive change. Together, they are rewriting her-story, ushering in a new era of female impact entrepreneurs, empowerment, and resilience.

Youth of South Africa still accounts for 59% of the unemployed population. Moreover, young women and girls continue to be marginalised in the South African economy and are at risk of increasing women-based violence.
The ORIBI Girls in Business program inspires girls to become womXn innovators who will lead and change the world. It is a social innovation program providing awareness and social venture-building skills for 200+ young girls in Township high schools.
We use social innovation and social enterprise to unlock new career pathways for young girls to unlock their independence, and agency, and develop entrepreneurial mindsets for positive social-ecological value.
