Unite, Create, Transform: Using Music as a Leveller for Community Empowerment
Our journey began in 2014 at the Open Design Festival when we hosted the inaugural song-making workshop in collaboration with the Human Sound project. This workshop is a testament to inclusiveness, welcoming participants of various cultures and age groups. Bound together by their shared love for music, they discovered the power of unity. Through singing, dancing, clapping hands, stamping feet, and other collaborative efforts, participants shared and contributed their personal stories of change, hope, and aspirations for a better future. With our 2014 festival theme: ‘Design is for Change,’ the song became the anthem of Open Design Afrika. Their stories inspired the final lyrics of the song they created through a fun, creative experience they will never forget! Watch the video shared at the top of this page.
